THE REALITY OF PET OVERPOPULATION: More than 600,000 puppies and kittens are born every day, compared to 10,000 human births each day. Simple math shows that there simply aren't enough homes for them all!

According to statistics published by the Humane Society of the United States, a single fertile cat and her offspring can theoretically produce as many as 420,000 cats in seven years.  A single fertile dog and her offspring can theoretically produce as many as 67,000 dogs in six years. Statistics also show as many as 6-8 million dogs and cats are entering shelters each year.  As many as 3-4 million dogs and cats are being euthanized in these shelters every year.

Statistics show that as many as 80% of dogs who are hit by cars are unaltered.

THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEMS FACING THE ANIMALS: Spaying/neutering in conjunction with humane education provides the only cure for the problem of pet overpopulation.  The future of the animals depends on the children of today. We must teach them to be responsible pet owners.  Owning a pet means adding a new member to your family.  You are making a commitment to love, protect and care for your pet for a lifetime, no matter what! They are not disposable!!

Lifebridge for Animals does not support euthanasia for population control.  We do support and promote responsible pet ownership through humane education and spay/neuter initiatives.  These programs are CRUCIAL if we are to become a society in which the animals are treated with the care and compassion they so richly deserve.

YOUR LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTER: Spaying/neutering is our best defense against shelter overpopulation.  Prevention and intervention are critical. We have to reduce the number of animals entering shelters while increasing the number of animals placed in loving homes. Statistics show as many as 6-8 million dogs and cats are entering animal shelters each year. These statistics also show as many as 3-4 million dogs and cats are being euthanized in these shelters every year.

THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF SPAYING & NEUTERING: Female animals who are spayed before their first heat have a reduced chance of developing mammary tumors, while the chances of developing ovarian and uterine cancers are completely eliminated.

Neutered males will not only have better prostate health, they will never develop testicular cancer, will be less aggressive, and will experience a decreased incidence of fighting.

Both males and females who have been altered will experience less need for territorial marking, a decreased urge to roam, will be more docile, easier to train, and more affectionate.  Pets who are spayed or neutered will be healthier, happier pets!

Spaying and neutering is our  best defense against shelter overpopulation.  Prevention and intervention are critical!  Join us in becoming a part of the solution by spaying and neutering your pets!
