Lifebridge for Animals is currently providing spays and neuters for all pets adopted from the Shelby County Animal Shelter when the voucher received at the time of adoption is redeemed through a participating Lifebridge veterinarian.  The shelter is located at 266 Kentucky Street in Shelbyville.  Stop by and visit the shelter during business hours or call them at 502-633-0009.  You may also view the animals waiting for loving and permanent homes at the shelter website below:

If you own a pet that has not yet been altered and are in need of financial assistance with a spay or neuter surgery, please contact Lifebridge for Animals at 502-633-4959.

THE REALITY OF PET OVERPOPULATION: More than 600,000 puppies and kittens are born every day, compared to 10,000 human births each day. Simple math shows that there simply aren't enough homes for them all!

According to statistics published by the Humane Society of the United States, a single fertile cat and her offspring can theoretically produce as many as 420,000 cats in seven years.  A single fertile dog and her offspring can theoretically produce as many as 67,000 dogs in six years.

Statistics also show as many as 6-8 million dogs and cats are entering shelters each year.  As many as 3-4 million dogs and cats are being euthanized in these shelters every year.

Statistics show that as many as 80% of dogs who are hit by cars are unaltered.

THE SOLUTION:  Spay/neuter your pets!  Spaying and neutering is the simplest, most effective way to prevent unwanted litters and stop the needless suffering of companion animals!

THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF SPAYING & NEUTERING:  Female animals who are spayed before their first heat have a reduced chance of developing mammary tumors, while the chances of developing ovarian and uterine cancers are completely eliminated.

Neutered males will not only have better prostate health, they will never develop testicular cancer, will be less aggressive, and will experience a decreased incidence of fighting.

Both males and females who have been altered will experience less need for territorial marking, a decreased urge to roam, will be more docile, easier to train, and more affectionate.  Pets who are spayed or neutered will be healthier, happier pets!

Spaying and neutering is our  best defense against shelter overpopulation.  Prevention and intervention are critical!  Join us in becoming a part of the solution by spaying and neutering your pets!
